Basin Well and its surrounding high desert landscape define this 2017 study of the borderlands between Chaves and Eddy Counties. The terrain is characterized by a sophisticated system of earthen livestock tanks and ephemeral water sources, critical infrastructure for the ranching operations that have long occupied this corner of New Mexico. Features such as Sink Hole Tank and Jones Tank illustrate how water management dictates the utility of the land in the Pecos River basin vicinity.
