Colville National Forest dominates this section of the Kettle River Range, where the Sanpoil River flows south through the western edge of the quadrangle. The terrain is defined by a series of prominent peaks and canyons, including the steep walls of Refrigerator Canyon and the high elevations of Bear Mtn and Quartz Mtn. For hikers and researchers of regional trail systems, the Pacific NW National Scenic Trail is a major feature, winding through the southern and western portions of the landscape near Tenmile Cr and Sunset Cr. The drainage network is complex, with O'Brien Creek and its north and south forks carving through the northeast, while Ninemile Creek bisects the center. Landmarks such as Gibraltar, Camel Back, and Eagle Rock serve as distinct navigational points within this heavily forested mountain terrain.
