The Missouri Wild and Scenic River carves through this northern Montana landscape, where the alluvial flats of the Missouri River valley are defined by a series of named riverside terraces. These lowlands, including Kendall Bottoms, McNulty Bottoms, and Gardipee Bottoms, represent the traditional geography of the river corridor before it rises into the breaks. The northern portion of the Charles M Russell National Wildlife Refuge and the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument dominate the map, protecting a rugged terrain of high ridges and deep gulches.
