Berlin occupies the southwestern corner of this LaMoure County landscape, a small prairie settlement defined by a grid of streets including Elevator Ave and 2nd Ave N. The surrounding terrain is shaped by the winding course of the James River, which cuts a prominent valley across the northern half of the quadrangle. This glacial landscape is further defined by several tributaries, notably Bone-Hill Cr in the northwest and the meandering Cottonwood Cr that flows through the southern central sections. Outside the town limits, the area is characterized by a precise network of rural roads like 92nd Ave SE and 67th St SE, reflecting the systematic agricultural development of the North Dakota plains. The geography is punctuated by numerous small depressions and wetlands common to this region, while CR-63 serves as a primary transit corridor through the river valley.
