Big Baldy and Gilmore Peak anchor the high elevations of the Fremont National Forest in this 2014 survey of Lake County. The landscape is defined by a series of north-south drainages, including Bauers Creek, Camp Creek, and Shingle Mill Creek, which descend from the forested ridges toward the agricultural and meadow lands below. The transition from timbered slopes to open spaces is marked by Augur Creek Meadows and Snyder Meadow, areas long shaped by ranching and forest management.
