The high desert landscape of West Texas is defined here by the deep drainage of Big Canyon, which cuts through the limestone plateaus of the Trans-Pecos region. This 2016 survey records the sparse ranching infrastructure along the boundary of Pecos Co and Terrell Co, where the land is primarily accessed via a network of private and county-maintained routes. Modern paved access is provided by FM 2886, while deeper into the drainage system, unpaved ranch roads such as Big Canyon Rd and Ranch Rd 2400 navigate the topography.
