The Island Park Caldera forms the geological foundation of this corner of Targhee National Forest, where the landscape is defined by deep drainages and volcanic remnants. High points such as Black Mtn and Snow Creek Butte overlook a complex system of canyons and draws, including Trail Canyon and Flat Canyon. The drainage network is particularly intricate here, with the Warm River and various forks of Partridge and Split Creeks carving through the terrain.
