Big Windy Peak dominates the high-altitude landscape where the Salmon National Forest, Targhee National Forest, and Challis National Forest converge. This mountain terrain transitions from the steep drainage of Quartzite Canyon and Spring Mountain Canyon in the north down toward the broader expanse of the Little Lost River Valley. The central portion of the map is defined by the Lemhi Range, characterized by significant elevation changes that drop into Cub Canyon and the Sawmill Canyon corridor.
