The Oquirrh Mountains divide this landscape between the industrial corridors of the Tooele Valley and the massive excavations of the Copper Pit in the early 1950s. To the south and west, the mountain peaks like Nelson Peak and Clipper Peak rise sharply above the mining operations.

Transportation and processing infrastructure define the local economy, with the Bingham and Garfield and Denver and Rio Grande Western railroads snaking through narrow gulches. Heavy industry is anchored by the Smelter and the International settlement to the west, while specialized engineering is evidenced by the Elton Tunnel and the Bingham West Dip Tunnel. Small residential enclaves like Highland Boy and Copperfield are nestled directly into the steep terrain of Carr Fork and surrounding canyons, highlighting the proximity of daily life to the large-scale extraction site.
