About this map

Oquirrh Mountains mining camps and high-desert agriculture define this 1916 survey of Tooele County. The industrial landscape is anchored by the silver and lead districts surrounding Ophir and the outlying settlement of West Mercur, which are connected to the valley floor via the St John and Ophir RR. In the lowlands, the waters of Rush Lake and the flows of Hickman Creek support a network of established homesteads, including Youngs Ranch and Morgan Ranch. The transportation corridor is dominated by the Salt Lake and Los Angeles RR, which passes through the regional hub of Stockton and serves the agricultural communities of Saint John and Clover. Local history researchers will find a detailed view of the early 20th-century Tooele Valley, including several numbered mines and the small community of Ajax at the southern edge of the survey.
