The Draanjik River dominates this sub-arctic landscape, its wide meanders and complex oxbow lakes cutting through the wet lowlands of the Yukon-Koyukuk region. In this 2018 survey, the river's path is defined by sharp bends and numerous abandoned channels that speak to the ever-shifting hydrology of the interior. A singular topographic exception is found at Red Bluff, where the elevation rises steeply along the riverbank, providing a rare high-ground landmark in an otherwise saturated basin. The surrounding terrain is a dense network of wetlands and small water bodies, typical of the interior river valleys where permafrost and seasonal flooding dictate the land's character.
