Blair Lake and the surrounding reaches of the Willamette National Forest define this landscape, where numerous alpine prairies and meadows break through the dense timber of the Cascade Range. In the late 1990s, the area remained a network of high-elevation openings like Beal Prairie, Spring Meadow, and Winnie Prairie, many of which are situated near the ridges of Mule Mountain and Koch Mountain.
