Blue Wing Mining Area occupies the northwestern heights of the Blue Wing Mountains, marking a pocket of industrial history in this high desert landscape. The terrain descends sharply from these peaks into the expansive alkaline expanse of the Blue Wing Flat, a notable playa that dominates the southwestern portion of the map. To the east, the land opens into the Granite Springs Valley, where the drainage patterns of ephemeral washes illustrate the complex hydrology of the Great Basin. This 2011 survey by the U.S. Geological Survey documents the sparse road network and mining footprints that define the human presence in this arid region of Pershing County.
