About this map

The small town of Bogata serves as the focal point of this 1960s survey, situated where the Old Railroad Grade meets several regional roads. The landscape is defined by the winding course of the Sulphur River along the southern border, where the Red River and Franklin County line follows the river's path. To the southeast, the man-made River Crest Lake stands as a significant industrial landmark, accompanied by a substation, pumping station, and water tank. Smaller settlements such as Johntown and Rosalie are interspersed among a network of creeks, including Mustang Creek and Whiteoak Creek. Local genealogy is well-documented through several family-named burial sites, such as Dodds Cem, Hinson Cem, and the Cooper-Woods Cem located south of the main township. The presence of a Quarry and a Sandpit indicates the active extraction industry in this portion of Northeast Texas during the mid-20th century.
