Fort Chadbourne stands in the northern reaches of this Coke County landscape, a site of deep historical significance in West Texas frontier history. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevations and drainages, including the prominent Kickapoo Mtn, Nipple Peak, and the rugged passage at Panther Gap. The hydrological network is dominated by the various forks of Kickapoo Creek, such as Middle Kickapoo Cr and W Kickapoo Cr, which have been modified over time with numerous Soil Conservation Service reservoirs to manage the arid environment.
