Lorena and the neighboring community of Bruceville-Eddy anchor the western edge of this central Texas landscape, where the prairie begins to transition toward the Brazos River basin. The terrain is defined by a dense network of tributaries including North Cow Bayou, South Cow Bayou, and Cottonwood Creek. A striking feature of this era is the extensive water management system, evidenced by numerous Soil Conservation Service reservoirs such as Site 27 Reservoir and Site 5 Reservoir, designed to control the flow of these bayous across the agricultural flats.
