Sun Prairie Flats defines the northern reaches of this Phillips County landscape, giving way to a network of drainage coulees and ephemeral water bodies. The terrain is characterized by the complex erosion patterns of the Larb Hills in the south, where Badland Coulee and Wilson Coulee carve through the high ground near Collins Hill. Water is a defining yet scarce resource in this part of the Missouri River Basin, represented by the central basin of Buckley Lake and the winding course of Sage Creek.
