Buffalo Lake and its smaller neighbor, Little Buffalo Lake, anchor the northwestern corner of this Glacier County landscape. The terrain is defined by a series of distinct prominences and drainage coulees that illustrate the high plains topography of northern Montana. To the east, Chalk Butte stands as a prominent landmark accessible via Chalk Butte Rd, while the southern reaches are marked by the elevations of Horsethief Ridge and Antelope Butte. The drainage patterns are clearly visible through Little Rock Coulee and South Fork Little Rock Coulee, which carve through the central sections of the quadrangle. Other notable elevations include Big Crown Butte and Little Crown Butte in the west, and the area is navigated by local routes such as Thorn Rd and Brandvold Rd. This 2014 survey documents the enduring physical features and sparse rural infrastructure of this remote portion of the state.
