The construction of Buford Dam transformed this stretch of the Chattahoochee River, creating the expansive waters of Lake Sidney Lanier that dominate the landscape. This 1964 field-checked survey illustrates the early recreational and industrial infrastructure of the reservoir, from the powerplant and substation at the dam to public access points like Young Deer Creek Access Point and Twomile Creek Access Point.

Away from the shoreline, the map preserves the traditional rural layout of Forsyth, Hall, and Gwinnett counties.
