Cain Mtn stands as the central landmark of this high-desert landscape at the intersection of Pershing, Lander, and Churchill counties. The terrain is defined by the broad Jersey Valley to the west and the rising slopes of the Augusta Mountains to the east. Rare water sources are concentrated at the valley's edge, including hydrothermal features such as Big Thermal Spring and the Lower Ranch Hot Spring. These springs and others like McCoy Springs and J S Ranch Spring represent critical points of human and livestock activity in an otherwise arid environment. Evidence of seasonal drainage is visible through the Jersey Valley Wash, which cuts across the basin floor. The map also delineates the northern reaches of Favret Canyon, providing a detailed look at the geological transitions between the valley floor and the surrounding mountain ranges.
