1956 Map of Cajon

USGS Topo · Published 1975

About this map

The Cajon Pass serves as a critical mountain corridor where the Union Pacific, Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe, and Southern Pacific railroads converge. This 1950s terrain study, updated in the mid-1970s, reveals the complex engineering required to navigate the San Bernardino National Forest, including numerous tunnels and steep grades through Cajon Canyon. The landscape is dotted with utilitarian landmarks such as a Weighing Station, Guard Sta, and various Water Tank sites supporting the rail lines.
