The White River carves a deep path through the Ozark landscape, defining the northern border of this territory where Izard, Stone, and Baxter counties meet. The town of Calico Rock sits at a prominent bend in the river, anchored by landmarks such as Calico Bluff and the nearby Roselawn Cem. The terrain is deeply incised by countless hollows, including Kennedy Hollow and Schoolhouse Hollow, which drain into the river system.

South of the river, the land transitions into the dense forest of the Ozark National Forest and the protected corridor of the North Sylamore Creek Wild and Scenic River. Small settlements and family burial grounds are scattered throughout these hills, such as Optimus and Culp, alongside numerous family-named cemeteries like Flanery Cem and Harris Cem.
