Moniteau Creek and its many tributaries, including Pisgah Creek and Howard Creek, define the rolling drainage patterns north of the town of California. This 2011 survey documents a rural landscape where family history is etched into the land through numerous small burial grounds such as Strickfaden Cemetery, Rohrback Cemetery, and Schmutz Cemetery. The transportation network relies on a mix of named county roads, such as Co Road D-50 and Carolina School Rd, which serve the agricultural plots and small settlements like Kliever.
