Koyuk River meanders through the heart of this landscape on the Seward Peninsula, carving a wide valley floor as it flows southward. The terrain is defined by a dense network of upland drainages and ridges, characteristic of the inland interior of this subarctic region. To the northwest, First Chance Cr feeds into the larger river system, marking a topographic break in the series of rounded summits and spurs. This 2017 survey serves as a modern record of the drainage patterns and land partitions in a remote part of the Nome Census Area, where the land is strictly divided by the Public Land Survey System into townships such as t2s r16w and t2s r15w. The absence of roads or permanent settlements highlights the wilderness character of this area, where the river remains the primary geographic anchor.
