The Cumberland Plateau dominates this portion of Grundy Co, where steep hollows and high points define the rural landscape. Near the Tennessee Valley Divide, the headwaters of the Elk River and Hickory Cr carve deep into the plateau, creating distinctive features such as Hickory Creek Gulf and Cane Hollow. Local family history is preserved in several small burial sites scattered across the terrain, including Wooten Cem, Winton Cem, and Johnny Cem.
