Carson National Forest encompasses this high-altitude landscape in Rio Arriba County, dominated by the massif of Canjilon Mtn and the sweeping Canjilon Meadows to the north. The area is a significant hydrological hub, where the headwaters of Rio Nutrias, El Rito, and Canjilon Cr descend through a network of steep canyons. Recreational development is centered around a chain of alpine water bodies, including Upper Canjilon Lakes, Middle Canjilon Lakes, and Lower Canjilon Lakes.
