Big Smoky Valley dominates the eastern half of this terrain, where the settlement of Carvers and the Manley Ranch sit at the base of the high country. To the west, the landscape rises sharply into the Toiyabe National Forest, culminating at the Toiyabe Dome Southeast Summit. This abrupt transition from the flat valley floor to the steep mountain front is carved by several distinct drainages, including Belcher Canyon, Cove Canyon, and the rugged Niagara Cañon.

Hydrogeological features like Darroughs Hot Springs indicate the active geothermal character of the region. The map documents a sparse network of forest roads and ranch tracks, such as the Fremont Route and Berg Fenceline Rd, which provide access between the valley agricultural lands and the high timber and grazing lands of the interior.
