Buffalo Bill State Park occupies the northeastern corner of this Wyoming landscape, where the North Fork Shoshone River feeds into the Buffalo Bill Reservoir. The terrain is dominated by the high elevations of Sheep Mountain, a central massif that separates the river's north and south forks. Evidence of ranching and irrigation infrastructure is prominent in the lower elevations, marked by an intricate network of waterways including the Lakeview Ditch, Wilson-Mc Kissack Ditch, and Neff Ditch.
