Sierra Blanca and the high ridges of the Sacramento Mountains define the topography of this Otero County region. The settlement of Bent sits in the southeast, situated where the Tularosa Cr flows near the base of Round Mtn. This area is characterized by its vital water sources in an otherwise arid landscape, including Maxwell Spring, Aguilar Spring, Guadalupe Spring, and Salado Spring. These points of reliable water historically dictated the movement of people and livestock through the canyons.
