Green River flows through the southeastern corner of this high-desert landscape, creating a distinct geographical boundary at Desolation Canyon where Carbon and Uintah Counties meet. The area is defined by massive plateau features, including Stephens Mesa and Indian Springs Mesa, which rise above the surrounding drainage basins of Pinnacle Canyon and Cedar Ridge Canyon.
