Kaw Lake dominates the northern reaches of this landscape, marking the boundary between Kay and Osage Counties. The surrounding terrain is defined by an intricate network of drainages that feed southward from the reservoir. In the northeast, the settlement of Apperson sits at the junction of Graham Rd and Apperson Rd, serving as a focal point for the surrounding rural homesteads. The geography is characterized by the branching systems of Charley Cr and Doga Cr, with the latter split into distinct eastern, middle, and western forks. These watercourses create a dissected topography, as seen near Stewart Cr and Jim Cr, where the land is carved by numerous unnamed seasonal tributaries. Rural transport is facilitated by a grid of local routes like Wooten Rd and Possum Hollar Rd, which navigate the rises between the creek beds.
