The Wichita River snakes in tight, complex oxbows across the Clay County landscape, defining the topography south of the small community of Charlie. This 2019 survey illustrates a rural Texas environment where the river's meandering course creates a intricate network of bottomlands and drainage basins, including the waters of Hay Cr. To the north, the terrain transitions to the higher ground of Pumpkin Ridge, while the eastern portion of the quadrangle is marked by several bodies of water including Byers Lake and the Petrolia Lake Number 1 and Petrolia Lake Number 2 reservoirs.
