Birch Creek and its many tributary drainages carve through this high plains landscape in Chouteau County. The terrain is defined by prominent upland plateaus such as Greens Bench and Cummings Bench, which rise above a series of deep erosional features including Wolf Coulee and Coal Coulee. These coulees trace the movement of water across the semi-arid environment toward the primary creek bed.
