The Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument dominates the southern landscape of this Chouteau County region, where the terrain breaks sharply into complex drainage systems. This 2024 survey documents a rugged series of plateaus known locally as benches, including Greens Bench, Cummings Bench, and Golf Bench, which sit elevated above the many coulees that define the local topography. Named drainage features like Coal Coulee, Johns Coulee, and Wolf Coulee highlight the erosional patterns leading toward the Missouri River system just beyond the map's southern edge.
