Chireno and the surrounding Nacogdoches County landscape are defined by the convergence of winding waterways into the northern reaches of the Sam Rayburn Reservoir. In this 2010 survey, the Attoyac River feeds into the reservoir, creating a complex network of wetlands and creek systems including Polysot Creek, Lick Creek, and Lagroulle Creek. The presence of the B E Gartman Estate Dam and the Cottingham Bridge indicates the infrastructure required to navigate and manage this aquatic environment.
