The high Cascades of the Wenatchee National Forest are defined by sharp ridgelines and high-elevation basins in this late 1980s survey. Much of the area is protected within the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, a landscape shaped by glacial activity that left behind a dense concentration of subalpine lakes, including Loch Eileen, Chiwaukum Lake, and the remote Jason Lakes. The terrain is anchored by the massive Chiwaukum Mountains and the prominent Icicle Ridge to the south.
