Volcanic geology and desert basins dominate this mid-1980s landscape in Lake County, where the massive East Lava Field and Four Craters Lava Field testify to the region's ancient activity. Between these basaltic flows and the Fremont National Forest, the community of Christmas Valley serves as a hub for the high desert. To the south, the expansive Silver Lake and the Summer Lake State Wildlife Mgmt Area provide critical water resources in an otherwise arid environment characterized by ephemeral features like Peters Creek Sink and North Alkali Lake.
