Gunboat Mtn and the surrounding high ground of the Texas Panhandle define this landscape, where the headwaters of numerous creeks carve into the escarpment. The drainage patterns are clearly visible, with Troublesome Cr emerging from Troublesome Canyon to the northwest, while Big Sandy Creek and Cottonwood Creek flow southward through the central portion of the quadrangle. Human modification of the arid environment is evidenced by the Soil Conservation Service Site 1 Reservoir, a water management feature situated near the course of Brushy Creek. The map also captures the sparse road network of the era, including Co RD 7 and Co RD V, which navigate the terrain between landmarks like Windy Valley.
