Little Drum Mountains anchor the northwestern corner of this West Desert landscape, where the terrain drops toward the prehistoric channel of the Old River Bed. This relic waterway, once part of the ancient Lake Bonneville drainage system, remains a primary geographic feature, cutting a wide path across the eastern half of the map. The distribution of water resources in this arid environment is clearly marked by a series of man-made improvements including the N Clay Knoll Reservoir, W Clay Knoll Reservoir, and W Marshall Tract Reservoir. Near the Chalk Knolls, infrastructure is modernizing as evidenced by the prominent Energy Corridor Rd, which runs vertically through the center of the sheet. The map also captures local agricultural efforts through the Marshall Ditch and the namesake rise at Clay Knoll in the southeast.
