Cochise anchors this high-desert landscape, situated where the arid basin floor meets the western foothills. The terrain transitions from the seasonal waters of Walnut Wash and the edge of the Willcox Playa in the east toward the significant elevations of the Dragoon Mountains and Gunnison Hills to the west. Much of this western portion is protected within the Coronado National Forest, rising toward the prominent Dragoon Peak.

Modern transportation and land use are evident in the presence of Ammon Airport and the small settlement of Manzoro, while a complex grid of residential and ranch roads, such as Cemetery Dr and W Four Spear Ranch Rd, crisscross the area between Big Draw and the township boundaries. The map illustrates a contemporary pattern of rural development and ranching that still respects the ancient drainage patterns of the Willcox Playa basin.
