About this map

Unimak Island defines the southern portion of this coastal survey, where the terrestrial landscape meets the expansive waters of the Bering Sea and Bristol Bay. This remote section of the Aleutians East Borough is characterized by its wild, uninhabited character, almost entirely encompassed by the Aleutian Islands Wilderness. The coastline is marked by distinctive geographical features such as Otter Point and Rocky River Point, which serve as landmarks along the northern shore of the island. Inland, the hydrology of the island is mapped through Coal Oil Creek and Otter Creek, both of which drain toward the coast. To the east, the protected waters of Swanson Lagoon provide a break in the shoreline, illustrating the primitive and untouched state of the Aleutian chain in the late twentieth century.
