About this map

Vundik Lake and the surrounding interior Alaska wilderness are captured here in a 1990 provisional survey based on aerial photography from the late 1970s. The map delineates the boundary between the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge, marking a transition between the elevated tundra of the north and the complex basin of the flats to the south. The landscape is defined by its hydrology, where Boulder Creek drains the upland slopes toward the sprawling lake system below. Apart from a solitary Cabin located east of Big Lake, the sheet contains no evidence of permanent settlements or roads, reflecting the preservation of these lands under the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act. At View 2255, the topography offers significant elevation overlooking the northern edge of the flats.
