About this map

Copake Ironworks and the industrial activity of eastern Columbia County dominate this early century survey. The landscape is defined by a dense network of competing rail lines, including the Harlem Division and the Poughkeepsie and Eastern R. R., which serviced the region's extraction sites like Weed Mines and the Ancram Leadmines. These operations were vital to the local economy of the Ancram and Copake townships, where the processing of ore required the water power found at New Forge and Spaulding Furnace.
