Chugach National Forest encompasses this coastal Alaskan landscape, where the braided channels of the Bering River dominate the drainage system. The terrain is defined by the significant elevations of the Shockum Mountains in the north and Gandil Mtn to the southeast, creating a complex watershed of glacial-fed streams and freshwater bodies. Large basins such as Kushtaka Lake and the smaller Starodubtsov Lake sit at the base of these peaks, connected by a network of seasonal watercourses like Stillwater Cr.
