About this map

Corona serves as the northern anchor for this landscape, where the street grid of the citrus-growing hub meets the northern slopes of the Santa Ana Mountains. The map traces the suburban expansion of the late 1960s, showing neighborhoods pushing toward the foothills of the Cleveland National Forest. Evidence of the region's deeper history is found at the Butterfield Stage Sta Historical Marker near the Temescal Wash, and in the industrial legacy of the Tin Mine and Kilns located east of El Cerrito. Transportation corridors are well-defined, from the Corona Freeway to the historic tracks of the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe and the Pacific Electric. The southern half of the sheet is dominated by deep drainage systems like Bedford Canyon and Ladd Canyon, which rise toward prominent summits including Pleasants Peak and Bedford Peak.
