The Hudson River serves as the primary corridor of commerce and transport in this late nineteenth-century survey, dividing Greene and Columbia counties. Along its banks, the West Shore R.R. and the New York Central and Hudson River R.R. facilitate a network of riverfront commerce, supported by a prominent Light House and various river islands including Hotaling Id. and Bronk Id..

Further inland, the landscape transitions to the elevated terrain of Indian Ridge and Potuck Hill, where smaller agricultural settlements like Stephensville and Coeyman Hollow are connected by wagon roads and creeks. The rail infrastructure is particularly dense near the river, with key transit points at Coeyman Junction and Coxsackie Station. To the southwest, the village of Cairo and Cairo Junction mark the entrance to the higher elevations of the Catskills, anchored by the peak at Cairo Round Top.
