Tongass National Forest dominates this interior portion of Prince of Wales Island, defined by an intricate network of waterways and glacial terrain. The Thorne River flows through the eastern sector, where the Thorne River North Flats mark a transition toward tidal influence. To the northwest, Toms Lake feeds the Toms River, while the central and southern reaches are drained by the Rio Beaver and its various tributaries including the Rio Beaver West Bank.
