The coastal logging and transport landscape of northern Humboldt County is centered here around the settlement of Crannell. This hub is linked to the surrounding timberlands by an extensive Old Railroad Grade that winds through the steep drainage of Maple Creek and its many tributaries, including North Fork Maple Creek and Clear Creek. The transition from the dense, high ridges of Tip Top Ridge to the Pacific shoreline is marked by the distinct maritime geography of Tepona Point and the wave-washed Little River Rock.
