Crestview and its surrounding ranchlands sit at a transition between volcanic flats and the headwaters of the eastern Sierra. The landscape is defined by the early course of the Owens River, which flows past the Owens River Ranch and Arcularius Ranch toward Long Valley. This 2012 survey documents a complex network of forest and logging roads, such as the Sand Flat Cutoff and Logging Camp Rd, that provide access to the timber and recreation areas of the Inyo National Forest. Notable high points and depressions shape the terrain, including Bald Mountain with its Bald Mountain Lookout and the various sandy plateaus like Little Sand Flat. Local springs and canyons, including Big Springs and Alpers Canyon, serve as critical hydrological markers in this arid high-elevation environment, where seasonal drainages like Deadman Cr cross the highway.
