About this map

The international border between the United States and Canada defines the northern edge of this Divide County landscape, where the prairie is partitioned into townships like Blooming Prairie and Hawkeye. At the center of this agricultural network sits Crosby, a rail hub served by the Great Northern and the Minneapolis St Paul and Sault Ste Marie railroads. The settlement pattern of the mid-twentieth century is remarkably dense with rural infrastructure, including numerous numbered schoolhouses such as School No 1 and School No 4. This 1940s-era topography shows a high concentration of community landmarks, from the Crosby Country Club near Long Creek to localized spiritual centers like Emmanuel Ch and Bethlehem Ch. The terrain transitions from the open plains in the east toward the distinctive Twin Butte elevation in the southwest, reflecting the glacial geography of the Missouri River Basin region.
